IMPACT | 2023
A year in review
Over nearly 75 years, LOGAN has consistently been a trailblazer, challenging and transforming expectations to broaden the horizons of possibilities. Our unwavering commitment has always positioned us as a resounding voice for inclusion, inspiring others to embrace opportunities and empowering those we serve through advocacy.
At the 2023 Great LOGAN Nose-On, we were honored to hear from Lizzie Velasquez, a global motivational speaker, anti-bullying activist, social media personality, and author. Born with a rare syndrome, Lizzie is one of only three known individuals living with this condition. Since being unfairly labeled the "World’s Ugliest Woman" in a 2006 YouTube video at the age of 17, Velásquez has become a vocal advocate against bullying.
Employment Transformation Collaborative
LOGAN's tradition of transforming expectations continued in 2023, marked by significant initiatives. In June 2023, LOGAN joined the Employment Transformation Collaborative, aligning with the state's goal to enhance individual competitive integrated employment. This two-year learning collaborative focused on aiding providers in transitioning from sheltered work prevocational services to those supporting competitive integrated employment outcomes, discontinuing the use of the 14c sub-minimum wage certificate.
LOGAN celebrates a decade of autism services in Southwest Michigan
Initially located in a church basement in St. Joe, Michigan, in 2013, the LOGAN Autism Learning Center grew quickly. In 2016, it moved into its current location at 1651 Nickerson Ave in Benton Harbor. The LOGAN Autism Learning Center serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in center and home-based settings and is the only nonprofit autism service in the area. Since then, the LOGAN Autism Learning Center has served more than 1,000 families.
LOGAN Wellness Summer Camp
In 2023, LOGAN began offering a Wellness Summer Camp for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. LOGAN takes pride in keeping individuals active and engaged throughout the day and the summer. The camp takes place at LOGAN Hannah & Friends Recreation Center.
